If you create an account, CrimeHalo stores your sign-in identity and a public display name you choose. Nothing else about your account is shown publicly.

Community reports and comments show only your chosen public display name. CrimeHalo never publishes your legal name, e-mail address or any other account detail alongside your contributions.

When you submit a community report, the precise pin you place is kept private and used only for moderation and quality checks. What appears publicly is an approximate area, never an exact private address.

Official records are shown only as precisely as the publishing agency provides them. CrimeHalo does not sharpen, guess or reconstruct a location.

Community reports and comments must not contain names or identifying details of private individuals, private home addresses, phone numbers, e-mail addresses, licence plates, accusations presented as fact, threats or anything encouraging confrontation. Content is checked automatically before posting and higher-risk content is routed to human moderation.

CrimeHalo counts page visits without cookies and without storing anything that identifies you. That measurement is always on and needs no permission.

Separately, and only if you accept advertising measurement, CrimeHalo uses Meta (Facebook and Instagram) measurement to understand which of our adverts bring people here. Nothing is sent to Meta before you accept.

What may be sent: that a page was viewed, that an incident or story page was viewed, that an account was created, and — later, if you opt in — that you joined the newsletter. Alongside that, Meta receives the page address with search and filter details removed, your internet address, your browser description, and Meta's own cookie identifiers if they exist. When an account is created, your e-mail address and your CrimeHalo account reference are turned into an irreversible code before they are sent, so Meta never receives them in readable form.

What is never sent: community report text, thread or comment content, recorded dispatch audio or transcripts, your precise location, exact map coordinates, incident descriptions, incident categories, your searches, or your map filters. We also never send your name, phone number, date of birth, gender or postal address.

You can change your choice at any time through “Privacy choices” in the footer. Choosing to reject stops all future Meta measurement, in your browser and on our servers. It does not erase information that was already sent.

Moderation actions are logged so decisions can be reviewed. These logs are visible only to CrimeHalo staff.

You can ask for your account and your community contributions to be removed. Official agency records are not yours or ours to remove — they remain published by the agency. Contact us through the contact page.
